Day 1:
Virginia Safari Park

The Virginia Safari Park in Lexington is one that will be an unforgettable experience for you and your family. This is an amazing outdoor-drive through park where you can get up close and personal with the wildlife. It contains 180 acres of zoo landscape. And when you feel like stretching your legs, you can head on over to the penguin encounter or journey through the village walk to get even closer to the animals.

After the Safari Park, drive into Lexington. At the top of your list for intown activities should be to take a carriage ride. Spread out in a comfortable carriage while receiving a full historical tour of Lexington. You can either schedule a ride in advance or merely walk up and ask for one if they are available. In addition, don’t be surprised if you see a bride and groom passing by in one of these!

Head to the Staunton area to spend some time at the Frontier Culture Museum. This museum highlights American folk culture in a fun and interactive setting. It also communicates how American culture is truly based upon African, European, and indigenous peoples. You can learn about the area’s origins, including the first pioneers who came to America in the 1600s and 1700s and how they contributed to who we are today.
