Festivals here reflect the passion and creativity of the folks who get to call Shenandoah Valley home. Our events are designed to create a shared experience, give a stage to music, and a voice to the arts, all while enjoying what’s typically savored and sipped. 

 

Whether you’re a first timer, or simply looking for new reasons to get out of town, below are festivals that are completely worth building your getaway around. 

 

(Please note, some of our festivals are on hold or evolving due social distancing protocols, but there is still plenty to enjoy!)

Fall Foliage Art Show in Waynesboro

Fall is said to be the best season to explore the Valley and the Fall Foliage Art Show in Waynesboro is one of the most anticipated events. The outdoor art show hosts over 150 artists who come to display their work. Featured artwork includes paintings, pottery, and jewelry. Like any good festival, the Fall Foliage Art Show is also packed full of food trucks, craft beers, and live music! 2021 dates to be announced.

 

Bonus, Two Festivals in One: Now, the previously separate Virginia Street Arts Festival which has been responsible for the outdoor mural movement throughout Waynesboro, will be joining forces to become part of the Fall Foliage Art Show.

 

2020 NOTE

The Fall Foliage Art Show is postponed for 2020, however the Virginia Street Arts Festival will take place October 10-11, 2020. Festivities will includes live mural painting and accompanying performances. 

 

While the festival packs plenty of options for eats, if you’re looking for a sit-down dining experience, you’ll want to make reservations for local favorites like Heritage on Main Street or The River Burger Bar.

 

Looking for a place to stay in Waynesboro? Heritage Hill Bed and Breakfast is nestled on a private estate with close proximity to downtown Waynesboro. Rooms go fast around the festival, so make sure to book in advance. 

Spring into the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival

The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival is an institution. Founded in 1924 and complete with a festival queen who is crowned each year, the event attracts over 250,000 people. Highlights include the Old Town Wine & Fine Arts Festival and the Apple Blossom Carnival. The week long event is full of parades, concerts, markets, and events.

 

Going on the 94th year in 2021, final dates are yet to be announced, but it typically takes place the last week of April / first week of May.

 

QUICK TIP

This is a great day trip if you live in the DC Metro region and while you’re in town make sure to check out local favorites like Sweet NOLA’s Restaurant,Bonnie Blue Southern Bakery and Restaurant, and Shaffer’s BBQ Restaurant and Market

 

And make sure to check out everything there is to do in Winchester no matter what season you visit.

Red Wing Roots Music Festival Sizzles in the Summer

Red Wing Roots is held at Natural Chimneys Park, in Mount Solon, Va. More than 40 bands perform across five stages during the 3-day festival. This festival has outdoor activities which include a kids’ climbing wall, bike rides and morning yoga sessions beneath the Natural Chimneys. The event typically attracts 6,000+ people per day. 

 

Stay and play in Augusta before or after the festival, check out all there is to do before you visit!

 

If you are looking for a more look key option in the summer, plan on checking out one of the newer festivals on the scene — Elkton’s  EPIC Fest Beer and Wine Festival. There’s live entertainment, with performances by local bands as well as a variety of food, beer, wine and options.

 

No matter your destination, the Fields of Gold Farm Trail is hands down a great experience for any foodie and farm lover. There are so many innovative, beautiful, sustainable farms to explore. If you’d like to check out the three mentioned here, make sure to fully plan to experience Augusta County and Staunton while you’re in the neighborhood!
